  • Preventative Healthcare

    flea and tick medicine

Recommendations for preventive healthcare vary based on geographic location, individual patient habits, and level of exposure to viral, bacterial, and parasitic pathogens. At Robinson Animal Hospital, we believe that there is no one approach that is appropriate for all of our patients. We take the time to understand every family's needs and create a preventive healthcare program specifically for each and every dog, cat, and pocket pet patient.

Vaccination recommendations are provided by the American Veterinary Medical Association. We view these recommendations as a starting point, and then further tailor a program that is appropriate for your pet. Not every patient needs every vaccination available. We will provide information and recommendations and help you make the right decision for your family.

Internal parasite control is critical, not only for your pet, but also for your family. Some parasites are infectious to humans, so it is important to control exposure for your entire household. Roundworms and hookworms are common in our area, due to our mild weather. These parasites can cause significant health problems in humans as well as animals. Monthly deworming is crucial for controlling the spread of these diseases.

External parasites, such as fleas, ticks, and mites are annoying and can also carry diseases that affect dogs and cats, as well as your other family members. There are many options for parasite control, and our veterinarians and staff members will help design a program that suits your pet's needs.

Heartworm disease is increasing, and the best way to combat the spread of this is through monthly prevention. We offer heartworm testing as part of our wellness program, and can effectively treat dogs that are positive.

Feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) are diseases that are commonly present in feral cats, are not treatable, and are ultimately fatal. Our veterinarians offer routine screening for early detection, preventing the spread of these diseases and improving quality of life for cats. We also offer vaccination for FeLV where appropriate.

Sometimes, surgery is necessary to treat a health problem in a beloved animal family member. Robinson Animal Hospital understands the importance of your pets and takes every surgery, whether minor or major, seriously. We believe in appropriate anesthesia, careful monitoring, and precision in surgical procedures.

By administering the appropriate amount of anesthesia, our veterinarians and staff ensure that pain control is achieved, while not extending the surgical time unnecessarily. With careful monitoring during procedures, we recognize problems early and can take steps to correct them immediately. Our veterinary surgeons are well-trained and have years of experience, allowing procedures to be exact and expedient. Our Post-Surgery Laser Therapy will reduce pain, reduce inflammation and speed healing.

In addition to routine surgeries, such as spays and neuters, declawing, and tail docking, our veterinarians are experienced in emergency surgeries, such as gastrointestinal foreign body removal, treatment of gastric dilatation and volvulus, limb amputation, splenectomy, Caesarian section, and much more.

Dogs and cats often develop dental problems as they age. Robinson Animal Hospital takes special interest in dental procedures, including routine cleaning and extraction of teeth. We offer dental radiology to help determine the necessity of procedures and perform all dental work with the appropriate amount of pain control and careful monitoring.

  • Dog Training & Behavior Counseling

The veterinarians and staff at Robinson Animal Hospital have seen the heartbreak associated with behavioral problems in dogs and cats. Sometimes, these problems are so severe, they can lead to very difficult decisions for families. These problems include separation anxiety, aggression, and destructive behavior in dogs and inappropriate urination in cats.

We feel that behavioral problems are largely unaddressed by many veterinarians. But these problems are just as damaging to the patients and their families as the diseases we treat. Our veterinarians and staff are knowledgable in behavioral counseling and would love the opportunity to work with your family and your pet to address behavioral issues before they become catastrophic.

In addition to our in-clinic behavioral counseling services, we work in conjunction with Shane Gentry of Sallie Said So professional dog training. This is a full service professional dog training company that offers in home training, puppy classes, AKC Canine Good Citizen classes, and behavior modification training.
